Vehicle Collision Risk Increases Labor Day Weekend

Take Care on our West Virginia Highways this Labor Day Weekend

In 2013, nine people died on our West Virginia highways during the Labor Day weekend. Though extra enforcement has driven down the statistics of alcohol related deaths on our nation's highways, the Labor Day weekend brings the highest number of drunk driving accidents, motorcycle wrecks, and motor vehicle collision fatalities of the year, second only to the Fourth of July weekend.

Three Vehicle Accident on Mason Dixon Highway

green flat bed truck.pngEarly Thursday morning, August 28, 2014 a flatbed truck was hauling a load of wood west on the Mason Dixon Highway near Morgantown.  The transport truck crossed the center line, causing a collision with a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east. 

Woman killed in collision with truck in West Virginia

A 34-year-old woman died at the scene of a head-on collision in Terra Alta, reportedly. According to authorities, the August 14 incident occurred on Veterans Memorial Highway, where the woman's vehicle was traveling west when an eastbound truck veered into its path. Authorities reported that the truck was registered to a 43-year-old man.

Fatal Car Accident on Fairmont Road near Morgantown, WV

A tragic beginning to a new school year: Two cars and five people were involved in a fatal head-on collision on Fairmont Road (highway US 19) in Monongalia County near the intersection with Sugar Grove Road at about 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Highway 19 is a narrow, curvy, undivided highway with very limited shoulder room.

Tragic Head-on Collision in Terra Alta, WV

An Aurora woman was killed in a head-on collision on Veterans Memorial Highway in Terra Alta on Thursday, August 14, 2014. State Police say the thirty-four year old woman was driving west on Route 7 in a curve east of Delano's Furniture and west of Hopemont Hospital at about 2:30 p.m. Her vehicle was struck head-on by a truck that had veered left-of-center and crashed into her car causing the fatal collision. A twenty-six year old in the truck was flown to Ruby Memorial with non-life threatening injuries. 

3 injured after car rear-ends tractor-trailer

An Aug. 9 accident on I-79 North in West Virginia involving a black Toyota Corolla and a tractor-trailer caused two women and minor to suffer injuries. According to emergency dispatchers, the afternoon collision in Kanawha County closed all lanes near the Mile 3 marker for approximately four hours.

Lawsuits Filed for Blasting and Explosions Damage to Homes and Property in West Virginia

Monongalia County couple Sues for Damages from Blasting

blasting in WV image.pngA Monongalia County has filed a lawsuit after their home was damaged by blasting work which was occurring for the construction of a new natural gas pipeline causing more than $100,000 of damage. The new gas line will run from Harrison County, through Mon County, up to Washington County, PA. This new line is designed to transport natural gas from area wells to three interstate transmission lines.

Ford Explorer Recall for Power Steering Defect

In May 2014, Ford Motor Company issued a recall for the 2011-2013 Ford Explorers for a defect in the power steering system.

ford explorer recall for power steering image.jpgThe affected vehicles may experience an intermittent connection in the electric power steering gear, which can cause a loss of the motor position sensor signal resulting in a shut-down of the power steering assist. If the SUV experiences a loss of power steering assist it will require extra steering effort at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
